Many customers in rural areas still do not have access to high-speed Internet, so they are more likely to be served by DSL or satellite providers. In urban areas, the fiber market is growing rapidly and the infrastructure to support it is expanding rapidly across the United States. After determining who the service provider is, we asked users to rate their satisfaction in five separate areas on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. Here’s an example of what users have seen:
Our ISP customer satisfaction rating is an average of all responses in five areas of customer satisfaction.

In general, customer satisfaction with Internet services is increasing. Most providers were able to demonstrate gains in all satisfaction categories compared to last year’s survey results. And as you might expect, fast speeds between fiber providers make for happy customers. Frontier, AT&T and CenturyLink Fiber dominated the overall rankings and in every single category.
The continued growth of SuddenLink and Bright House is noteworthy. These cable providers have made significant progress in satisfaction ratings since last year, trailing Optimum and newcomer RCN in the overall results. This indicates that cable internet services still have the speed and reliability to compete with fiber in many areas of the country.
RCN and Exede are new to this year’s survey. RCN is a cable provider with a small footprint focused on major metropolitan areas such as Boston, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. What this provider lacks in size, they make up for in excellent service and high speed. RCN won the 2015 Best in Speed and Reliability award from PC Magazine and their ranking as Newcomers to this year’s survey reflects high levels of customer satisfaction. In contrast, Exede, a satellite provider, comes in at the bottom of our overall ranking with slightly lukewarm reviews. They need to achieve significant gains in all areas of customer satisfaction to compete with other established providers such as HughesNET.
Mediacom is bottom of the barrel across the board in our ISP satisfaction survey. While they offer reasonably fast speeds in many areas, customers report that Mediacom fails to deliver those speeds consistently. A confusing pricing structure, hidden fees, poor customer service, and lack of self-install options contribute to Mediacom’s average rating. Obviously, despite the odd speeds, customers will struggle with satellite internet rather than deal with Mediacom. This is not a ring confirmation.

Frontier has been steadily expanding its service area over the past few years, bringing fiber to rural areas that up until this point only had satellite or cable Internet. Their dominance in the overall rankings is likely a result of these customers enjoying flawless speeds for the first time. Frontier is also making fiber cheaper for DSL and cable users by offering some cheaper packages with even slower speeds a step up. Frontier’s three-year no-contract price lock is hard to beat. According to the average customer, Frontier does it right.
While 2015 saw some widespread problems with outages and reliability in areas absorbed by Frontier, this year’s survey results indicate that the company has recovered from the setback. Frontier Fios leads in every category, including customer service and support.
This is a difficult service area for some ISPs. Customers often opt for self-installation and support during the initial process can be important to satisfaction. In general, fiber companies score higher in installation satisfaction surveys than DSL or satellite providers.
Suddenlink and Brighthouse recorded significant increases in last year’s results. Like Frontier, SuddenLink is busy expanding cable broadband service to rural areas where customers previously had only DSL or satellite access. Bright House has a limited footprint in just five countries, but their no-compromise approach makes them an attractive option.

Time Warner Cable, in response to feedback about their exceptional customer service and lack of technical support, attempted to revamp their installation experience with a robust menu of guides and better support. That effort seems to have paid off, as TWC received a small bump in installation satisfaction and overall ratings.
Once again, Frontier blows the competition away with an excellent setup and setup experience. They offer self-installation kits for many areas, which forgoes the expensive $50.00 fee. A look at Frontier’s website indicates a healthy array of troubleshooting guides for each step of the installation process, and they even offer free modems. Yes I said “free”. Who doesn’t love those four little letters strung together?
For many customers, that’s the whole point of the Internet. Household balloon market uses multiple devices and extensive flow. And they want everything. Upload and download speeds are excellent, fast enough to support online gaming and HD movie streaming. Suppliers that cannot keep up are slowly but surely exiting the market.
While overall satisfaction among fiber providers is rising, DSL customers are becoming increasingly frustrated with their slow speeds. It is worth recognizing the significant increase in satisfaction among SuddenLink, Bright House and Optimum customers. All three providers offer speeds of 100 Mbps, which in some areas are about three times faster than DSL and satellite.
Internet Service Providers Conyers, Ga
Windstream leads the way in this category for good reason. As a DSL provider, their service reaches 25Mbps. By comparison, referring to Windstream as “fast” Internet seems misleading. As disappointing as speed can be, this provider serves much more rural areas and may have a dial-up internet option available.
Frontier’s FiOS again excels in this category. Frontier boasts equally consistent upload and download speeds across its network. Another frontier may be its expanding rural customer base. Many of these users have never experienced the wonders of fiber optics and may be a little wide-eyed wondering how these speeds are changing their internet experience.
The speed of light is no comfort without the reliability of a consistent connection. Which providers are the best at preventing outages and keeping their customers connected? Our satisfaction survey results indicate that fiber providers are still leading the pack here, delivering high
